This piece is woven at approx. 220 knots per square inch, which works out at approx. 2,885,684 knots in total — every one tied by hand, over approx. 13 months.

How that is worked out: 135 in × 97 in × 220 knots per sq. in. ≈ 2,885,684 — that is 344 × 246 cm converted to inches, because knot density is counted per square inch.

Magnify past 13× and the field stops being a picture and becomes what it actually is: rows of individual knots, each one a decision about colour made at a particular moment.
