Gabbeh Open Field
Gabbeh means 'raw' or 'unclipped'. Qashqai nomads weave them thick and sparse, with whatever the flock produced that season.

Count the knots yourself
This piece is woven at 90 knots per square inch, which works out at roughly 513,361 knots in total — every one tied by hand by Parviz Qashqai, over 4 months.
Magnify past 13× and the field stops being a picture and becomes what it actually is: rows of individual knots, each one a decision about colour made at a particular moment.
The same test works in the shop, on any carpet, with no equipment. We wrote up how to do it in the back of the rug tells you everything.
