Hereke Ivory Panel
A lattice of interlocking octagons in silk on silk. The pattern reads differently from each end of the room because the pile lies one way.

Count the knots yourself
This piece is woven at 800 knots per square inch, which works out at roughly 1,860,004 knots in total — every one tied by hand by Elif Demirtaş, over 15 months.
Magnify past 13× and the field stops being a picture and becomes what it actually is: rows of individual knots, each one a decision about colour made at a particular moment.
The same test works in the shop, on any carpet, with no equipment. We wrote up how to do it in the back of the rug tells you everything.
