This piece is woven at 240 knots per square inch, which works out at roughly 3,958,088 knots in total — every one tied by hand by Hossein Rahimi, over 16 months.
Magnify past 13× and the field stops being a picture and becomes what it actually is: rows of individual knots, each one a decision about colour made at a particular moment.
